Tonic Living began with a stack of vintage fabric and a touch of cosmic timing. On the same day Janine and Jon welcomed their second son into the world, they also registered tonicliving.com—two births in one day—both life-changing.
What followed was equal parts hustle and heart—no loans, no fancy business plan—just determination and a “let’s see what happens” attitude. Armed with a dining room table and a sewing machine, Janine dove headfirst into a whirlwind of creativity and Jon, the steady force behind the scenes, supported bringing their shared vision to life. They proved you don’t need perfection to chase success. Spoiler alert: it worked.
How It All Began: A Journey of Growth
Tonic Living didn’t start with a grand plan. It was more like, “People seem to love these vintage fabrics—let’s roll with it!” What began in a basement moved into a slightly larger basement (progress!) and then into a windowless industrial unit (where they paid for a window to see daylight).
Fast-forward a few years, and now Tonic Living is rocking a 10,000-square-foot space based in Toronto, where the magic happens in person. Not local? No problem! Our online store is like your stylish bestie—only this one’s a fabric expert, never questions your pillow choices, and fully supports shopping in pyjamas. With stunning visuals and super-easy navigation, it’s a shopping experience you’ll actually enjoy.
We’ve come a long way from mismatched chairs and fabric swatches on a dining room table. Although, let’s be real: mismatched pillows and chairs are kind of our vibe.
